In the heart of Beverly Hills, our team at Vintage Cellars recently completed one of our most ambitious projects to date -- designing and installing two magnificent, large wine cellar solutions for the prestigious Gravitas Club. This landmark project showcases our ability to seamlessly blend sophisticated technology with elegant design, creating wine storage spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful.
In the heart of Beverly Hills, our team at Vintage Cellars recently completed one of our most ambitious projects to date – designing and installing two magnificent, large wine cellar solutions for the prestigious Gravitas Club. This landmark project showcases our ability to seamlessly blend sophisticated technology with elegant design, creating wine storage spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful.
Working alongside George Kelly Architects and PWI Construction, we transformed sections of a former bank building into state-of-the-art wine storage facilities. The project features two distinct installations: an impressive catwalk wine display system visible from the main bar area, and an innovative private wine locker room equipped with smart technology for Gravitas’ discerning members.
What makes this project truly special is not just its scale, but the attention to detail in every aspect – from the custom-designed lockable wine racking systems and precisely calculated cooling solutions to the thoughtfully integrated lighting that creates an ambiance worthy of Beverly Hills’ most exclusive private club. Each element was carefully considered to ensure both optimal wine storage conditions and a visually striking presentation that would impress even the most sophisticated wine enthusiasts.
Massive Wine Display Shelves That Are Fitting for Gravitas’ Exemplary Architecture and Interior Design
Located off Camden Drive in Beverly Hills, Gravitas stands as a testament to luxury and refinement. This exclusive members-only club has transformed a historic bank building into an elegant establishment offering fine dining, entertainment, and concierge services to its distinguished clientele. The venue features multiple private dining areas, bars, and meeting spaces spread across multiple levels, creating an atmosphere of sophisticated exclusivity. At the heart of this transformation are two remarkable large wine cellar installations. The first is an L-shaped wine locker area spanning approximately 40 feet on the long side and 20 feet on the shorter side, providing personal storage for members' private wine collections. The second installation consists of two separate temperature-controlled wine enclosures situated on an elevated catwalk, each extending roughly 15 feet in length and designed to store the club's own impressive wine collection. These enclosures serve as both functional storage and architectural focal points, visible from the main bar area below.Built with Sophisticated Wine Racking Systems
Our team installed the sophisticated Vino post system, featuring floor-to-ceiling wine racking in elegant black-on-black finish. This vertical rack mount system allows for efficient storage while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic that complements Gravitas' high-end interior design. The catwalk enclosures are designed to be three bottles deep, maximizing storage capacity without compromising the display's visual appeal. For the private locker area, we implemented custom storage solutions capable of accommodating various bottle quantities, with standard lockers holding up to one case (12 bottles) and select larger-format lockers designed to store up to two cases. A wine locker or lockable wine rack is probably something you do not hear of everyday, but Gravitas has them for their clients to store their very own choice of wine brands.Custom Steel Doors by Maiden Steel for a Large Wine Cellar
The wine enclosures feature expertly crafted custom steel doors by Maiden Steel, designed specifically for this unique space. These dual-pane doors aren't just aesthetically pleasing - they're engineered for optimal wine storage conditions. Each door is equipped with insulated weather stripping and dual-pane glass, creating an excellent seal that maintains temperature stability while allowing for clear visibility of the impressive wine collection within. The doors play a crucial role in both the form and function of the large wine cellar spaces. Their sleek design complements the modern aesthetic of Gravitas while providing the necessary insulation for proper wine storage. The clear glass panels create an unobstructed view of the illuminated wine displays, allowing guests in the bar area below to appreciate the carefully curated collection from any angle.A Lighting System That Highlights the Overall Aesthetics
The lighting design plays a crucial role in elevating these wine storage spaces from purely functional to truly spectacular. In the catwalk enclosures, Vintage Cellars installed LED recessed lights into the wall behind the racking system, creating a warm, inviting glow that highlights the bottles and adds depth to the display. The private locker area features similar thoughtful illumination, with recessed lighting behind each vertical column of lockers, creating a sophisticated atmosphere while ensuring proper visibility for members accessing their collections.Power-Packed Large Wine Cellar Cooling Units
Cooling such large wine cellars indeed posed a challenge, but nothing that Vintage Wine Cellars cannot expertly addressed. “The biggest challenge was definitely the mechanical portion especially in a huge space like this. You just don't know where, what options you have and where to go because there's so many tunnels, different walls adjacent to wherever you think you could utilize. It's just a team effort really to be able to accomplish what we have. And everybody works together to get to the end goal of having a functional space,” says Chris of Vintage Cellars. For the catwalk enclosures, the team implemented a sophisticated twin evaporator coil system (VRMTE) in each enclosure, with one evaporator on each end to ensure even cooling throughout the space. This configuration uses four evaporator coils in total, powered by two compressors, guaranteeing consistent temperature control across both enclosures. Inside the amenity room is where the locker towers are located. This space measures 40 x 20 ft, which is a massive area to cool. Vintage Cellars then installed two 15,000 BTU CTI systems with a total of six evaporator coils surface-mounted to the ceiling. This strategic placement ensures optimal airflow throughout the L-shaped space, with air blowing downward and return air coming in from the side. The single entrance point, while elegant in design, also helps maintain consistent temperature control throughout the space. Additionally, it somehow helped that the entire area has only one access point rather than multiple entries as it impacts the cooling process in a positive way.A Classy Wine Storage System with Bluetooth-Capable Lockers
Behind each vertical column of lockers, lighting is installed recessed into the walls, which create an elegant ambiance. But the real highlight are the Bluetooth-capable wine racks with lock that can be operated through an app. This seemingly intricate locker control system is Gravitas’ unique offering for clients to feel secure about their personal items. Chris explains, “It takes quite a bit of time to be able to program something like this, but that's exactly what Gravitas wanted to give their clients peace of mind that they are the only ones who can access their locker at any time other than the staff.”Yet Another Milestone for these Master Craftsmen…
To create a large wine cellar, it takes a lot of effort, skills, and in-depth research, but for Vintage Cellars, it’s worth all the hard work. “This project is amazing to be a part of because this is going to be a landmark in Beverly Hills – their private clients, the type of parties that they can hold…anything can be done here. I would think Oscar after-parties and Academy Award events.
